The BBC has created a three part documentary called “Perfume” that original aired in the spring of 2011. “Something Old, Something New” was the first of the three episodes which featured a look at the challenges of the perfume industry in today’s market. It then moves to Paris, France to peek into the secret world of Guerlain. Jean-Paul Guerlain is retiring, looking for a suitable person to take over his great family perfume empire. After finding no family member to take his place, Mr. Guerlain chooses a close friend named Thierry Wasser to take the captain’s chair and move this renowned French perfume house into the 21st century. Jean-Paul Guerlain finds himself in a bit of hot water after some racist remarks that were made in an interview and leave Thierry Wasser searching for ways to mend fences. In the meantime, Estee Lauder and Tommy Hilfiger are launching a new designer fragrance.
