Montale offers the ever popular combination of citrus and herbs to create Sliver Aoud. This fragrances starts with the delivery of an intense lemon and rosemary one-two punch. The opening notes might remind you more of a nice marinade for a piece of chicken or fish. Lavender makes its presence known just at the end of the top notes, adding a minty element to the herbal mixture. The lavender increases in intensity during the heart note, and subsequently, making a memorable statement. Geranium and the slight suggestion of oud follow next. There is very little oud in Sliver Aoud, considering Montale’s Arabian roots. This fragrance seems to be dominated by an herbal theme with base notes of vetiver and cedar. Is Sliver Aoud reminiscent of the ever-popular scents of the 80’s that used lavender as a primary element? Perhaps so. The tonka bean adds sweetness and the cedar seems thrown in for warmth and good measure.
It seems that Montale should consider creating some classically-inspired Arabian scent, and put much less emphasis on trying to market them for Western tastes. The modernization is somewhat boring, and unfortunately, I’ve smelled this one too many times.
