a journey of the senses by FLACONNEUR

Sachet Redux

Most of us are familiar with the concept of a sachet. You know, that small nondescript canvas bag of aromatic natural material used to scent your closet or the drawers of a dresser. A sachet gives any stagnating or enclosed space the opportunity for sensory improvement. Traditional sachets are bulky, and regrettably their scent diminishes with time. There have been no new takes on the concept of the sachet. Until now, that is.

Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle has given a new meaning to the word “refresh” with its latest product, Rubber Incense. No it’s not something to place by your front door. This high-tech sachet of sorts is designed to perfume small spaces, like closets, drawers and even your car. The idea originated from a candle scented with the fragrance Saint des Saints, which Frédéric Malle himself hid away in his closet. The concept of opening the closet doors and being engulfed in the scent of Saint des Saints was a pleasure to his senses. This innovative perfumed mat is constructed of rubber, a whole 118 grams, and it releases its perfume without the aid of electricity. All conservationists love that idea. Frédéric Malle’s Rubber Incense mat is perfume with none other than Saint des Saints created by Carlos Benaïm, and four other fantastic fragrances. Saint des Saints is described as “mystical, sensual, warm and enveloping,” whose inspiration come from several Indian temples. Saint des Saints is a wondrous mix of wood and incense, now encapsulated in 100% recyclable plastic rubber.

You can find Rubber Incense mats available at Barneys New York in the following fragrances: Saint des Saints, Jurassic Flower, Russian Nights, Marius & Jeannette and Rosa Rugosa. The Rubber Incense mats are $110. Frédéric Malle give a new meaning to keeping a rubber in your dresser drawer.

110 bucks for a mat, hmmm… But rosa rugosa is one of my favorite flowers. I can’t wait to see what Malle and his perfumers made of it! 🙂

Steep yes, especially for a what it is. My interests are in how long the fragrance lasts.

I like Kurkdjian’s product line, original stuff that’s not too pricy. Btw, nice Creative Commons license.
